What is yoga?
Yoga means to unite or make one. It is an age-old and present day exercise art and science that promotes physical and mental well-being. Yoga is the harmonious integration of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of an individual.

Preparing for a yoga class.
We recommend that you wear what is comfortable and also allows you to move and stretch. Most people find that shorts or footless tights and a T-shirt work fine. The teacher should be able to see the outline of your legs, so no sweat pants please. Yoga classes are done in bare feet. We provide mats and blankets for students to use.

It is easier to do the yoga postures on an empty stomach so you are advised not to eat a heavy meal 1-2 hours before class.

Yoga for a new you.

Enjoy all the benefits of yoga. With even fifteen minutes of regular daily practice you can begin to feel your body, mind, and emotions all coming into harmony. You'll become stronger, more flexible, more stress resistant - and you'll have fun doing it.

The atmosphere of a yoga class is supportive and respectful of all students. You are encouraged to start where you are and work with the body you have today. If you're stressed out, there's the opportunity to learn to relax. If your body needs toning, yoga will provide strength without stressing your joints. If you're feeling stiff, you'll enjoy the gentle stretching provided in a yoga class. Best of all, yoga requires no special equipment - if you have a body, you can start today!

Namaste
Yoga classes often end with the instructor using this beautiful Sanskrit salutation that comes from India. It means: I honor the place in you where the whole Universe resides. And when I am in that place in me and you are in that place in you, there is only one of us.
